Covid-19 deaths (Feb 2): seven new fatalities, toll nears 32k

 


COVID-19 | The Health Ministry reported a total of seven new Covid-19 fatalities yesterday (Feb 1), bringing the cumulative death toll to 31,985.

The deaths were recorded in Johor (2), Selangor (2), Pahang (1), Perak (1) and Terengganu (1).

All the deaths occurred in the last seven days.

An average of 15 Covid-19 deaths was reported daily in the last 30 days compared to the seven-day average of 10, indicating a downtrend.

As of yesterday, there were 57,152 active Covid-19 cases. This is an increase of 25.1 percent from the 45,702 active infections a week ago.

Compared to 30 days ago, the number of active cases has increased by 40.7 percent from 40,609.

From the 5,566 new cases yesterday, a total of 363 of them could be traced to ongoing Covid-19 clusters.

For cluster-linked cases, 285 (78.5 percent) were from education institutions, while 63 (17.4 percent) were from workplaces.

The remaining cases were traced to clusters related to community transmissions (6 cases, 1.7 percent), high-risk groups such as old folks homes (4 cases, 1.1 percent), detention centres (3 cases, 0.8 percent) and religious events (two cases, 0.6 percent).
