PONTIAN: Johor Barisan Nasional (BN) chief and caretaker menteri besar Hasni Mohammad will face a four-way fight for the Benut seat.
Hasni, who is also Johor Umno chief, will be looking to retain the state constituency for a fourth term, having first won the seat in 2008.
He is BN’s menteri besar candidate for the polls.
In the 14th general election (GE14) in 2018, Hasni won the seat with a 4,447-vote majority, seeing off challengers from Bersatu and PAS.
This time, he is going up against Bersatu’s Isa Ab Hamid (Perikatan Nasional), PKR’s Hanif Ghazali Hosman (Pakatan Harapan) and Pejuang’s Iskandar Noor Ibrahim.
Isa was the first to arrive at the Benut multipurpose hall nomination centre at 8.15am, accompanied by his proposer and seconder.
Iskandar was next, arriving at 8.25am in his Proton Wira with his wife. Hanif then arrived at 8.55am, with several supporters in tow at a distance.
Hasni arrived last with little fanfare at 9.05am with his proposer and seconder.
The Election Commission’s returning officer for the seat, Rafi Abdullah, confirmed their nominations at 10.45am. - FMT
