Kok to Zuraida: No need to comment on my English, explain 'under one roof' remark

Seputeh MP Teresa Kok said Primary Industries and Commodities Minister Zuraida Kamaruddin should explain what she meant by putting three agencies in her ministry “under one roof”, instead of chastising her for supposed weaknesses in English.

After Zuraida reportedly said the Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB), the Malaysian Palm Oil Council (MPOC) and the Malaysian Palm Oil Certification Council (MPOCC) will be brought “under one roof”, her predecessor Kok had advised her against doing so.

In response, Zuraida had taken a jab at Kok’s English comprehension, saying that she did not mean the three agencies would be combined into one when she said “under one roof”.

Kok pointed out in a statement today that the three agencies are already under one roof in the ministry.

"I feel amused when I read Zuraida's response to what I said about her suggestion to put MPOC, MPOB and MPOCC under one roof.

“If (combining into one) is not what (Zuraida) meant, then what did she mean?

“I believe Zuraida is already aware that the MPOB, MPOC and the MPOCC are already under one ministry. This means the three agencies are already under one roof,” Kok said in the statement today.

She also pointed out that the top leadership in the three agencies already work closely with each other under the ministry.

“Does this not mean that they are already under one roof?” she asked.

Kok had previously advised Zuraida against consolidating the three agencies into one, as the three have unique functions and characteristics.

Zuraida had responded that she was not combining the three agencies, but that she wanted to ensure they were in one place to facilitate easier communications. - Mkini
