JOHOR BAHRU: Muda candidate Rasid Abu Bakar will battle fellow opposition candidate Dr Zamil Najwah from PKR in a six-way fight for the Larkin state seat.
The list for the seat was officially announced by the returning officer Abdul Rahman Salleh at 11am.
Besides Rasid and Zamil, the other candidates vying for the seat are Mohd Hairi Mad Shah representing Barisan Nasional (BN), Zulkifli Bujang (Perikatan Nasional), Mohamad Riadz Mohamad Hashim (Pejuang) and independent candidate Norramadan Buan.
Zamil later expressed his disappointment over Muda placing a candidate in the same seat as PKR.
“This (challenge from Muda) should not have happened. But PKR will have to accept this and will face anyone contesting the Larkin seat,” he told reporters.
He also denied he will be sharing the same election machinery with Muda for the campaign period.
Meanwhile, Rasid said the focus of the fight was not between Muda and PKR, adding he was confident the opposition will be able to garner support in the polls.
Yesterday, Amanah communications director Khalid Samad said his party will fully support the PKR candidate in any clash with Muda. The Pakatan Harapan component had earlier this month agreed to give up four of its seats to the new party.
DAP had also given up two of its seats to Muda. However, negotiations between PKR and Muda broke down as both parties could not come to an agreement on the seats to be given up by the former.
