PETALING JAYA: Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM) is looking into contesting the Stulang and Maharani state seats in next month’s Johor elections, according to a party insider.
The source also said the party was confident it could win the seats based on the work done by the Penggerak Komuniti Negara (PKN) group in the two areas.
The group was formed under the auspices of the housing and local government ministry when Zuraida Kamaruddin was its minister, Some 50,000 PKN members joined the party in December.
“Our candidates are local residents who are PKN members, and PKN has been working in these areas for a long time, so we are confident we can win these seats,” said the source.
“We will offer candidates who understand the needs of the people. This is the advantage we have.”
The source said PBM would field a Malay candidate who could speak Mandarin in the Stulang seat.
DAP’s state secretary, Andrew Chen Kah Eng, will seek re-election in Stulang, which he won in the 2018 general election with a majority of 12,470 votes over MCA’s Ang Boon Heng. Amanah’s Nor Hayati Bachok is seeking another term in Maharani.
PBM was previously reported as targeting the Tiram and Puteri Wangsa state seats in the Tebrau parliamentary constituency.
The party will announce its candidates on Thursday, two days before nomination day for the March 12 polls. - FMT
