The election of PKR office bearers for the 2022 to 2025 term has been postponed to a new date, and will now take place from May 13-18.
This is in line with the provisions of Clause 47.3 of the PKR constitution, party secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail (above) said in the postponement circular notice released today.
He said the party election would be conducted according to new methods and provisions, in accordance with the ruling of the Central Leadership Council (MPP) made at its meeting yesterday.
Based on the circular notice, party elections for all posts, including the women's and youth wings at the branch level, will be conducted over a five-day period in May.
Elections will also be held during the same period for the posts of president, deputy president as well as four vice-presidents and the same posts in the women and youth wings for the central level.
Yesterday's meeting also set April 8 to April 10 as the nomination day for the branch level elections. Meanwhile, April 11 is set for nominations for the MPP posts.
Saifuddin also said only PKR members registered before or on January 31, 2022, are valid to vote for the line-up of leadership candidates at the central and branch levels.
The eligibility to contest
"The registry of party members for the use of the 2022 election will be issued to the branches from February 24, 2022. Meanwhile, candidates contesting in any level of office will be provided with the party electoral registry after their candidature is confirmed by the SRC.
"Eligibility to contest is only for PKR members who have received nominations from two members who have paid the membership fee and are eligible to vote and have been party members for not less than 12 months before Jan 31, 2022," he said.
Saifuddin added that central- and branch-level voting is conducted by digital voting (E-Voting) through a hybrid method, namely online voting and physical voting at the polling station.
Prior to this change of date, PKR announced the party election on April 22 to 29 while the National Congress was to be from June 10 to 12.
The party had also set the nomination period from March 11 to 19 but the nomination date now coincides with the Johor state election, which has been set for March 12. - Mkini
