JOHOR POLLS | Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) has announced film director Arangkannal Rajoo, 46, as its sole candidate to contest in the forthcoming Johor state elections.
PSM deputy president S Arutchelvan earlier today said Arangkannal will be fielded in N49 Kota Iskandar.
"Actually, this would be PSM's first time contesting in Johor. It would be a challenge to win.
"So, Johor will be a test for the party, even though we have been serving the people on the ground.
"PSM will bring substance, principled politics, and the voice of the people to the crowded election ground in Johor," Arutchelvan said during a function to announce the candidate in Pulai.
Arul introduced Arangkannal, known as Ara, as an award-winning social-themed film director who has made a name abroad.
He said Arangkannal has been serving in the Kota Iskandar constituency for two years.
Meanwhile, Arutchelvan said PSM maintains its ideology of speaking up for the ordinary people, unlike other "elite parties" that offer developments mostly for the wealthy.
"What we see in Johor is Singapore-oriented developments.
"All this development takes into account Singapore's interest. This is what had driven up prices of basic goods in Johor, as well as a mismatch in terms of job opportunities," he said.
"If PSM wins, we will work hard to protect the interests of those from a lower-income background," he added. - Mkini
