KUALA LUMPUR: Some 8.6 million individuals will receive the Bantuan Keluarga Malaysia (BKM) phase 1 financial aid which will be disbursed between March 28 and April 8.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said they would receive between RM100 and RM300 each depending on their eligibility.
The recipients he said will comprise 4 million households, 1.2 million senior citizens (who are single or without a spouse) and 3.4 million other single individuals.
"Each recipient will receive payment in stages from March 28 (Wednesday), with a total allocation of RM2 billion.
"It is also to ease the financial burden of the people, especially in preparing for the coming Ramadan," he said in a statement today.
He said payment aid for households, senior citizens and single individuals, would be credited to their bank accounts.
Meanwhile, cash aids for individuals without bank accounts would be made from March 30 through Bank Simpanan Nasional, he explained.
He said any appeals could be submitted within a month from May 2, ensuring those eligible from the targeted groups would benefit from the BKM programme.
"This is to reconsider rejected applications, by allowing applicants to submit an appeal with the necessary documents to be verified by the Inland Revenue Board.
"The government is always alert to the current needs and will remain committed to ensuring the wellbeing of the Malaysian Family, especially the target groups," he said.
Ismail Sabri said the BKM was a government initiative announced in the 2022 Budget to assist the B40 group.
BKM approval status could be checked on the website https://bkm.hasil.gov.my from March 28. - NST
