PETALING JAYA: Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) today announced the appointment of Suhaimi Ali as an assistant governor and the retirement of assistant governor Norzila Abd Aziz, effective April 1.
It said assistant governor Adnan Zaylani Mohamad Zahid will assume Norzila’s portfolio in the Investment Operations and Financial Markets and Foreign Exchange Policy departments. He will also oversee the Data Management and Statistics department.
In a statement today, BNM said Suhaimi will assume Adnan’s existing portfolio, comprising the Financial Development and Innovation, Islamic Finance, and Financial Inclusion departments.
Suhaimi joined BNM in 1998 after graduating from the University of Notre Dame in the US and has served in various areas, including financial sector development, regulation and supervision, strategic planning, market conduct, international negotiations, and IT services, as well as in the governor’s office.
Norzila joined BNM in 1988 and has played a key role in strengthening and modernising the bank’s investment operations and financial markets functions, as well as in driving BNM’s efforts to deepen Malaysia’s financial market.
BNM governor Nor Shamsiah Mohd Yunus thanked Norzila for her “significant contributions to BNM and country in her 35 years of service”.
She is confident that Suhaimi’s promotion will strengthen BNM’s ability to deliver on its mandates. - FMT
