Cops summon organiser, restaurant over 'Santai Bersama Bossku' crowd

JOHOR POLLS | Police have summoned the organiser behind the “Santai Bersama Bossku” event and the owner of a restaurant where the function was held over failure to comply with the standard operating procedures (SOPs) against Covid-19.

Kluang district police chief Low Hang Seng did not specify the political party and individuals involved but made reference to a 15-second video uploaded on Facebook that showed a big crowd at Ngepot Cabin, a popular spot in Kluang, Johor.

“Police detected a 15-second video recording uploaded by the Facebook account ‘Malaysia Negara Ku’.

“The video clearly shows a gathering involving a political party at a premise located at Kampung Masjid Lama, Kluang, Johor, believed to have taken place on March 5 around 9pm.

“Observations showed the activity clearly violated the SOP under Phase 4 of the National Recovery Plan outlined by the National Security Council by failing to abide by social distancing and the director-general of health’s directive,” Low said in a statement.

Low said the organiser and restaurant owner have been identified and summoned to the Kluang district police headquarters for further investigation.

He urged all political parties and supporters to abide by the SOP aimed at curbing the Covid-19 pandemic.

On March 5, former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak visited Ngepot Cabin for an engagement session with supporters.

He was also accompanied by BN's Mengkibol candidate Kelly Chye Pei Yee, who is from MCA.

There was a large crowd of people, many clad in BN's trademark dark blue, as well as live performances. Najib had also shared a video of his visit.

The former prime minister, who has been convicted of criminal breach of trust, money laundering and abuse of power, has been actively campaigning for BN in the Johor state election.

He is appealing his 12-year jail sentence and RM210 million fine in the Federal Court. Najib has used his “Bossku” slogan to rebrand his image.

The campaigning for the state polls kicked off on Feb 26. Johoreans will vote on March 12. - Mkini
