Covid-19 (March 7): 26,856 new cases, 76 deaths

 


COVID-19 | The Health Ministry said 26,856 new daily Covid-19 cases were reported yesterday, bringing the total cumulative infections to 3,649,463.

Active cases stand at 304,305, up 14 percent compared to 14 days ago.

New cases according to states are as follows:

Selangor (6,757)
Kedah (2,884)
Kuala Lumpur (2,181)
Johor (2,059)
Kelantan (1,896)
Pahang (1,858)
Peinang (1,836)
Negeri Sembilan (1,575)
Terengganu (1,270)
Sabah (1,235)
Perak (1,142)
Malacca (863)
Sarawak (857)
Putrajaya (182)
Labuan (135)
Perlis (126)

Another 76 deaths attributed to Covid-19 was reported yesterday, of which 26 was declared as 'brought in dead'.

Over the past week, an average of 79.4 people were reported to have died of Covid-19, while the average for the past 30 days was 42.7, indicating that Covid-19 deaths are on the uptrend.

Since the start of the pandemic in March 2020, a total of 33,304 deaths has been attributed to Covid-19.

Malaysia has the highest number of deaths per capita in the Asean and East Asian regions with 997 deaths per 1 million population, and fourth-worst in Asia after Iran, Lebanon and Jordan – all in the Middle East.

Johor reported the most deaths yesterday (13) followed by Kedah (12), Selangor (12), Kelantan (6), Terengganu (6), Negeri Sembilan (5), Sabah (5), Malacca (4), Perak (4), Pahang (3), Putrajaya (3), Penang (2), Kuala Lumpur (2).

There are 8,736 Covid-19 patients who are hospitalised of which 368 are in intensive care.

The hospitalisation rate nationwide is at 68.1 percent. - Mkini
