Hand in cast, PN worker says roughed up by Umno supporters

JOHOR POLLS | A Perikatan Nasional (PN) worker has lodged a police report after claiming he was roughed up by Umno supporters.

A video recorded by the 60-year-old taxi driver of the incident showed three men behaving aggressively, screaming at him and hitting his car for putting up PN flags near their village.

Sujali Ahmad (above) appeared at a press conference today with his arm in a cast, accompanied by Bersatu information chief Wan Saiful Wan Jan.

“I was the driver and two people would get off to put up the flags before I moved forward. My arm was on the window and they slammed my hand.

“They don’t feel anything when they do the beating but it’s my arm that is being pinned down,” Sujali said.

The incident happened near Kampung Tebing Runtuh in Gelang Patah, Johor last Satuday (March 5). Sujali lodged a police report today.

The area is located within the state seat of Kota Iskandar.

“I never expected for something like this to happen because I thought this is a free election where everyone can put up their respective flags,” he said.

Sujali added he didn’t put up flags in the village but on the main road leading to the village.

“Why are Umno people doing this to me?” he said, adding that he used to assist Umno in the past.

Sujali lamented the partisanship, stating that he personally had no issues interacting with other parties.

“I’ve helped Amanah, BN, and even DAP. I have a picture where I brought Lim Kit Siang to the villages because it was about distributing aid and not politics.

“If it’s aid, I accept because it’s for the people but if it’s politics then I can’t because I’m in Bersatu,” he said.

Sujali also took offence at the assailants insulting Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin when he tried to put up the PN flags.

“Don’t insult my ‘Abah’. If you want to insult my father, fine but not ‘Abah’ because Muhyiddin Yassin has done so much for us,” Sujali said, referring to Muhyiddin by his nickname.

In the 2018 general election, Amanah won the Kota Iskandar seat by 14,543 votes.

Kota Iskandar and Skudai are two state seats within the Iskandar Puteri parliamentary constituency where DAP's Lim is the MP.

Amanah's Dzulkefly is defending his Kota Iskandar seat under the Pakatan Harapan logo in this Johor polls.

He is facing BN's Pandak Ahmad, PN's Samsudin Ismail, Pejuang's Zaini Abu Bakar and PSM's R Arangkannal.

Johoreans will go to the polls on March 12. Campaigning starts on Feb 26.
