'Moshing at Johor concert': GLC apologises, says tried to disperse crowd

A government-linked company that organised a concert in Johor which saw a large crowd moshing to rock music today apologised for the incident.

In a statement, MyCreative Ventures Sdn Bhd, an agency under the Communications and Multimedia Ministry, said the moshing had occurred “spontaneously” among attendees and the organiser had taken action immediately to stop them.

“Clear instructions have been given to the event management company that the Health Ministry's standard operating procedures (SOP) must be complied in full to ensure the safety of all attendees.

“The (moshing) incident that night was done spontaneously by concert goers, and was not part of the event’s plan.

“However, the organiser together with Rela personnel had taken immediate action to disperse those involved and told them to leave the venue so that SOP can be complied with,” the company said in a statement.

It added that the moshing happened after the event had ended and Communications and Multimedia Minister Annuar Musa had left the venue.

According to MyCreative Ventures, they have been contacted by police and will extend full cooperation to the authority in their investigation.

The Riuh Ek concert was held in Ayer Hitam last Friday (March 4), after which several video clips and photographs of the event had gone viral, showing a large crowd moshing without social distancing.

A clip of the event showed attendees moshing to a remixed version of the dangdut music ‘Yang Penting Happy’ by Jamal Mirdad, which has gone viral on Twitter, Facebook and TikTok.

This had irked the police, which had launched an investigation. - Mkini
