Landslide: Families of four deceased to get RM10k from Selangor govt

 

Families of those who died due to the landslides at Taman Bukit Permai 2, Ampang, will receive a RM10,000 cash aid from the Selangor state government.

Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari also said emergency aid of RM500 will be provided to the residents of 15 houses affected by the landslides.

However, he said assistance would only be channelled after the investigation conducted at the scene by relevant parties is completed and conditions are safe.

"We have four victims who died, so the Selangor government will give RM10,000 to each family.

"Meanwhile, we will postpone (aid) for the affected houses because we want to prioritise (being certain that) conditions are safe first before we announce the assistance and support that can be given.

"Previously, we gave RM500, but I will review if there is a need to increase," he said at a press conference held at the housing area today.

A landslide at Taman Bukit Permai 2 yesterday evening claimed four lives while another victim escaped with light injuries in an incident that also affected 15 homes and 10 vehicles.

A search and rescue operation began as nine firefighters from the Pandan Fire and Rescue station arrived at the scene after receiving a distress call at 5.54pm.

During the incident, residents in the area heard a loud bang caused by two landslides that occurred in succession during heavy rain.

The incident was also caught on camera by residents as it happened.

The Meteorological Department has forecast heavy evening showers until March 14. - Mkini
