Low voter turnout will only help BN, says Muhyiddin

Muhyiddin Yassin says a victory for Perikatan Nasional in Johor will provide a platform for the coalition to prepare for the next general election.

PAGOH: Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Muhyiddin Yassin has urged Johor voters to come out and cast their ballots on Saturday, saying a low voter turnout would benefit Barisan Nasional (BN).

At a ceramah here today, Muhyiddin said a high voter turnout would boost PN’s chances of forming the next Johor government.

“I believe our youth understand that they have no choice but to support PN. However, what we are concerned about is the voter turnout. In Melaka it was 60%, will it be 59% or 79% in Johor?,” he said.

“I want to remind everyone that if the voter turnout is low, it will only help BN.”

In the recent Melaka state elections, Pakatan Harapan (PH) and PN leaders cited a low voter turnout as among the reasons for BN’s massive victory.

The former prime minister also said a PN victory in Johor will provide a platform for the coalition to prepare for the next general election (GE15).

PN is competing in all 56 seats in the Johor state elections, with Bersatu fielding 33 candidates, PAS 15, and Gerakan eight.
