JOHOR BAHRU: A newlywed couple took the spotlight at a polling centre for the Johor state elections here today.
The couple, Faiq Basir, 29, and Zaimah Nasir, 27, arrived at the Dewan Kampung Melayu Majidee polling station in Larkin at 3.30pm in their white wedding attire.
“I feel like a celebrity today. I am excited and feel lucky because even on my wedding day, I am able to fulfil my responsibility as a voter in the Johor state elections,” Zaimah told reporters after casting her vote.
She said their wedding was fixed well before the Election Commission (EC) announced the polling date.
She said the polls did not interfere with her wedding ceremony, which ran smoothly earlier today.
“There was only a little traffic congestion as more people were going out to vote, making parking difficult, but we had Rela officers to help out,” said the graphic designer.
Faiq said he would cast his vote in Parit Raja.
“After this, I’m rushing to Parit Raja to vote before the polling station closes at 6pm,” said Faiq, who works as an administrative assistant.
This was the second time the couple was voting in the state elections. - FMT
