PETALING JAYA: Umno will be stronger if all its leaders, including those in government, honour the party’s mandate, says Umno Youth chief Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki.
“For the first time in history, the head of the government and the party are two different people,” he said, referring to Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob and Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
Asyraf said the prime minister and his ministers are on the “frontlines”, running the country with the mandate and trust of the party.
The party’s leadership, on the other hand, strengthens the party, develops new talent and draws up guidelines for those on the “frontlines”.
“If everyone understands their roles and responsibilities, the party will become stronger,” he said in his opening address at the wing’s annual general meeting today.
“There is no need to dance to the enemy’s tune. Labels like minister cluster, PWTC cluster, Royale Chulan cluster, Putrajaya cluster, winning or losing cluster should not be used. This will only divide us.
“There is only one cluster, the Umno cluster,” he said.
Asyraf said there was no need for anyone in Umno to incite or be a lackey to their respective “bosses” on the pretext of protecting their interests.
He said such people were “wolves in sheep’s clothing” and would ultimately bring upon the downfall of their “bosses” and destroy the party. - FMT
