PARIT: The Perak government will study the lack of access to menstrual products, education and sanitation facilities among the state’s B40 group, particularly Orang Asli women and teenagers.
State executive councillor Dr Wan Norashikin Wan Nordin said the study would allow the state to collect data on the lack of such facilities and increase the amount of aid to women who were affected.
She said Orang Asli women suffer from “period poverty” and difficulty in obtaining sanitary products because there are no shops close to their villages. “Here in Kampung Suak Padi, they have clean water but may not be able to find sanitary products in an emergency,” she said.
Wan Norashikin, here for a “Keluarga Malaysia” event at the Orang Asli village in Suak Padi, handed over female sanitary kits to women, as well as disposable diapers, bath items and confinement care products to 50 families with new babies. - FMT
