Puteri Umno chief Zahida Zarik Khan is bidding sayonara to PAS after the Islamist party refused to abandon Bersatu and Perikatan Nasional.
She said Umno had hoped dearly that its Muafakat Nasional pact would continue to flourish, and that such cooperation was missed by Malays and Muslims in the country.
But she said PAS' continued attempts to have both Umno and Bersatu have soured the relationship.
"There is no polygamy in politics. Choose one.
"We have told PAS repeatedly, if you want Bersatu, then be with them. If you want us, then come," Zahida said in her policy speech at the Umno general assembly today.
PAS previously tried to be a bridge between Umno and Bersatu.
However, Zahida (above) said Umno could not stomach Bersatu, likening them to a treacherous scorpion.
"A scorpion's nature is to sting, and they will keep stinging, and anyone can be stung," she said.
However, she said PAS still preferred to be with frogs and scorpions in Bersatu, which leaves Umno with little choice.
"Sayonara, selamat tinggal, goodbye PAS!" she said.
PAS formed Muafakat with Umno in 2019 when both were part of the federal opposition.
The cooperation led to a string of by-election victories.
However, both parties have since clashed at the ballot box in the Malacca and Johor polls.
The results of both elections saw PAS languish with Bersatu while Umno dominated in multi-cornered fights.
This effectively nullifies arguments from pro-PAS factions in Umno who believe the Islamist party is key to Umno winning the next general election. - Mkini
