Ceiling prices for chicken, eggs extended to June 30

The finance ministry will be studying measures to aid low-income groups once the ceiling prices on chicken and eggs end.

PETALING JAYA: Ceiling prices for chicken and chicken eggs will be extended to June 30, said domestic trade and consumer affairs minister Alexander Nanta Linggi.

The ceiling prices, which were implemented on Feb 5, were slated to end on Sunday.

Nanta said the finance ministry would study measures to aid low-income groups when the ceiling prices were no longer in effect after the end of the month.

“This extension is to ensure that Malaysians are prepared for the change in prices when the ceiling prices end after June 30,” he added.

Currently, the prices for chicken and eggs in the peninsula are:

  • Standard whole chicken: RM8.90 per kg
  • Super whole chicken: RM9.90 per kg
  • Grade A eggs: RM0.43 each
  • Grade B eggs: RM0.41 each
  • Grade C eggs: RM0.39 each

The prices for these items vary in Langkawi, Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan, according to the different zones and districts.

Nanta said the ministry’s enforcement officers would ensure sufficient supply of these items nationwide and that there was no profiteering.

He reminded traders to be ethical in conducting their business and urged consumers to only purchase what they need and to spend wisely. - FMT
