PETALING JAYA: Johor Bahru police have put up a temporary barbed wire barricade at the banks of the Johor Straits after a viral video showed foreigners entering Malaysia illegally near the Sultan Iskandar Building.
Five men and three women of unknown nationalities were shown entering Malaysia illegally yesterday evening, according to footage from security cameras in the area.
Johor Bahru South police chief Raub Selamat said they had entered through a prohibited area near the building, which houses the border checkpoint for customs and immigration.
The police have since set up a temporary barbed wire barricade and a marquee tent for police to be stationed there 24 hours a day.
He urged the eight people to come forward to assist in the investigations.
Johor menteri besar Onn Hafiz Ghazi said the matter had been discussed with the home ministry to resolve the ongoing issues at the checkpoint. “I hope that the ministry will be more serious in dealing with issues that have impacted the image of the country and state of Johor,” he said. - FMT
