eJamin a game changer for bail payments

Users can use eJamin for seamless bail payment transactions.

PETALING JAYA: In the past, posting bail in court would entail carrying around large amounts of cash.

Later on, the courts allowed people to post bail online, making the process more convenient. However, it became apparent that certain age groups struggled with online banking transactions out of a lack of knowledge or experience and concerns of trust in online transactions.

As the nation began to embrace digitalisation in line with the government’s aspirations, Dapat Vista (M) Sdn Bhd introduced eJamin to make the posting of bail safer and more convenient.

Launched in 2020 and approved by the judiciary, eJamin is currently being used in 177 courts and allows for cashless transactions via Financial Process Exchange (FPX), letting people complete online banking transactions using their banking credentials.

This was a game changer that made posting bail safer and more convenient.

More recently, eJamin has made its service even more convenient with the introduction of eJamin Teller Machine (eJTM,) which allows users to post bail payments at an ATM and a CDM machine closest to them.

The feature allows users to post bail through the national bill payment system – JomPAY – at an ATM machine and also through a virtual account for CIMB Bank’s CDM machine.

Users are able to make payment of the bail amount conveniently using their existing bank accounts without the need to physically open a new surety (guarantor) bank account.

“In the past, bailors would be required to open one surety bank account which would have incurred additional bank charges along,” said Dapat Vista managing director Amanda Sabri.

Opening a surety bank account, she said, put unnecessary stress on the bailor because they would have to incur additional costs to travel to the bank branch.

With eJamin and its new eJTM feature, what was a three-hour process can now be completed in less than 30 minutes.

Bail payment has never been easier, or safer, with eJamin.

According to Amanda, the service facilitated a total of RM125 million in bail payments in 2021. “Since January 2020, we have had more than 69,000 transactions come through our system,” she said.

She said eJamin’s popularity also grew because there are no limits on the amount of money that can be transacted on a daily basis, unlike with bank transactions.

To further drive adoption, Dapat Vista has published tutorial videos and guide books outlining the simplicity of the system. It also has on-site help desks to provide assistance at courts nationwide.

“We are confident that users (bailors) will be pleased when they experience their first seamless payment transaction with eJamin,” Amanda said.

She said the focus for the year is to continue to drive forward cashless transactions in Malaysia, while facilitating growth in the Klang Valley as well as rural areas throughout Malaysia.

“We aim to leave no one behind. Digitalisation is the wave of the future, and we want to achieve a digitalised Malaysia for Malaysians in the very near future.

“Our goal for 2022 is to have more than 80% of the courts throughout Malaysia registered with eJamin to allow for bail payments,” she said. - FMT
