PETALING JAYA: The number of new Covid-19 cases increased last week by 27.9% to 14,195 from 11,096 recorded the week before, said health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
In his update for the week ending June 18, Noor Hisham said the increase in cases also saw a rise in the number of people admitted to public hospitals and quarantine centres.
The number of hospital admissions rose by 4% per population of 100,000 compared with the preceding week.
Overall bed occupancy for non-critical cases rose by 1%, while utilisation of intensive care unit (ICU) beds increased by 2%.
Noor Hisham said there are currently 24,053 active cases.
“Recoveries dropped by 2.6% from 10,806 to 10,524.
“The number of deaths dropped by 16% from 25 cases to 21 cases, bringing the cumulative figure for fatalities to 35,732 cases,” he said in a statement.
He also said 4,538,922 Covid-19 cases had been recorded in the country since January 2020. - FMT
