IPOH: Police fired six shots to stop a car driven by a suspected drug dealer during an incident in Ayer Tawar, Lumut today.
Perak police chief Mior Faridalathrash Wahid said in the 4pm incident, a police patrol unit flagged down the car of the 61-year-old suspect.
“The suspect tried to escape and crashed into the front of the police vehicle,” he said in a statement tonight.
Mior said police chased the suspect’s car for about 800m and had to fire six shots at the car to stop him from escaping before finally arresting the man and finding 33 packets of syabu weighing 62.5g in his car.
Police also detained the suspect’s 38-year-old wife who was in the car. The couple had their two-year-old son with them.
The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and Section 307 of the Penal Code. - FMT
