Pakatan Harapan held a meeting earlier today with Muda to negotiate their participation as a component party in the coalition.
It also held a meeting with Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) to negotiate political cooperation for the 15th general election (GE15).
Harapan said, in joint statements with each party, that the discussions went well and the matter would be brought up in the next presidential council meeting.
This comes after DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke said that a committee was formed to negotiate with the said parties.
Committee members present at today’s meetings were DAP organising secretary Steven Sim Chee Keong, PKR vice president Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, Amanah Youth chief Hasbie Muda and Upko vice-president Ewon Benedick.
Muda leaders who attended the meeting were party president Syed Saddiq Abdul Rahman, deputy president Amira Aisya Abdul Aziz, vice president Zaidel Baharuddin and information chief Luqman Long.
‘Pleasant meeting’
Meanwhile, PSM was represented by its deputy chairperson S Arutchelvan and honorary treasurer Soh Sook Hwa in their meet-up with the committee.
He later confirmed with Malaysiakini that the meeting had gone well.
“Pleasant meeting. We both spoke about parameters. They (Harapan committee) will bring (the matter) to the presidential council on October 5th,” he said briefly.
Harapan previously noted that both parties wanted to partner with the coalition so as to avoid multi-cornered clashes in GE15.
PKR was deemed as the biggest obstacle for Muda to join Harapan after both parties clashed in Larkin during the Johor state election in March.
Earlier, PKR vice-president Chang Lih Kang described Muda’s application to join Harapan as “too late”, suggesting the newly formed party become an electoral partner to the coalition instead.
Amanah Youth complained they felt marginalised as Muda might be given “grade A” seats for GE15.
However, both Amanah and DAP’s top leaders welcomed Muda’s application. - Mkini
