KUALA LUMPUR: A former research assistant to Anwar Ibrahim has appealed against a High Court decision dismissing his application to cancel several paragraphs in the PKR president’s statement of defence and counterclaim.
Yusoff Rawther filed the appeal at the Court of Appeal on Sept 28.
“The matter is set for online case management on Dec 27, his lawyer, Mahajoth Singh, told Bernama.
Yusoff is appealing against a decision by judicial commissioner John Lee, made on Sept 9, dismissing his application to cancel several paragraphs in Anwar’s statement of defence and counterclaim.
It was in relation to a lawsuit he filed against Anwar on July 14, 2021, alleging sexual assault by the PKR president four years ago.
In his statement of claim, Yusoff alleged that the sexual assault took place on Oct 2, 2018 at Anwar’s residence in Segambut.
He claimed that as a result of the incident, he was accused of plotting to bring down Anwar and damaging his political career, and this affected his mental health.
He is seeking special, general, aggravated and exemplary damages, and interest, costs and other relief as deemed fit by the court. - FMT
