PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang said that taking responsibility for the mistakes of others in one’s group is something that Islam teaches.
He cited an example in which the Prophet Muhammad took responsibility when one of his companions wrongly killed a prisoner of war, so that reparations were paid.
“This incident shows that Islam allows the struggle against ignorance, but admits wrong for the transgressions of its members. But Islam still rejects deviant struggles.
“Don’t listen to the devil, especially among those who are loyal to DAP because this will destroy the image of Islam.
“That is why PAS takes responsibility for the transgressions of its members who made any mistakes, to the point of being punished with payment or fines,” he said in a statement today.
While he was non-specific, Hadi’s remarks came amid the party’s donation drive to help Kepala Batas MP Siti Mastura Muhammad pay RM825,000 in damages to DAP leaders.
This is after she lost a defamation case for claiming that Lim Kit Siang and Lim Guan Eng were related to Communist Party of Malaya (CPM) leader Chin Peng and that Teresa Kok was also related to the Lims.
An internal PAS circular stated that central PAS committee leaders and state chiefs, divisions, and branches must donate at least RM500 each.
State chapters as well as wings at federal, state, and division levels are required to raise a minimum of RM20,000 each.
PAS spiritual leader Hashim Jasin had on Tuesday confirmed to Sinar Harian that the donation drive is real.
Mastura was granted an interim stay of execution on paying the damages pending a court hearing in late January to get a full stay on the punishment. - Mkini
