PETALING JAYA: A Melaka PAS leader has taken executive councillor Dr Akmal Saleh to task for being a member of a state government that cooperates with DAP, urging him to quit in line with Umno’s principles.
The dare came from Melaka PAS information chief Ahmad Bilal Rahudin, who took a swipe at Akmal who had engaged in a war of words at the state assembly over Umno man Jailani Khamis who moved to PAS.
Akmal had labelled Jailani a “traitor” and a “frog”, and demanded to know why the state assembly speaker had not declared Jailani’s Rembia seat vacant.
In a statement today, Ahmad Bilal said every elected representative had the right to make political decisions based on their principles and beliefs.
“Jailani’s decision to leave Umno was in protest of the Umno president’s betrayal of the party and the entire Malay community,” he said.
“Melaka PAS would like to remind Akmal that if he is an assemblyman who adheres firmly to the principles of (Umno’s) struggle, he should be ashamed of cooperating with DAP.
“Akmal should leave the government that cooperates with DAP if he truly holds on to his principles.”
Jailani was elected to the Rembia seat on a Barisan Nasional ticket at the 2021 Melaka state election.
In July last year, he was suspended for six years by Umno for allegedly sabotaging the party by attending the announcement of the Perikatan Nasional candidate for the Simpang Jeram by-election in Bakri, Johor.
PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan announced on July 16 that Jailani had joined PAS on June 10, 2023. - FMT
