Drug abuse cases involving children on the rise in Terengganu

Drug abuse cases involving children aged 10 to 14 in Terengganu rose by 16.7% in the first quarter of this year.

National anti-drugs agency (AADK) director-general Ruslin Jusoh said seven children in the age group were involved in drug-related cases in the first quarter of 2026, Utusan Malaysia reported him as saying at an event in Felda Tenang, Besut, today.

This was up from six cases recorded during the same period last year and this matter needed attention, he added.

Ruslin said the number of drug addicts in Terengganu fell by 7.2% in the first quarter of 2026 to 7,582 people, compared with 8,174 during the same period last year.

Ruslin stressed that the decrease is just the beginning as there are many drug abuse issues in Terengganu, noting that the drug addiction rate in Dungun increased by 8.4% in the first quarter of this year. - FMT
