The Bertam service centre distributed the Jalur Gemilang already mounted on poles to businesses and commercial premises in the area today to prevent confusion over the installation of the national flag.
Bertam assemblyperson Reezal Merican Naina Merican said that 200 Jalur Gemilang were handed out in the first phase of the initiative, carried out in collaboration with several NGOs, Umno Youth, and young people.
"We want to take proactive steps to ensure there is no further confusion when the Jalur Gemilang is put up," he was quoted as saying.
One of the recipients was a hardware shop in Bertam Pertama, which came under the spotlight last year for displaying the flag upside down, Malaysia Gazette reported yesterday.
Terengganu PKR has called on Umno to explain decisions made in the past and acknowledge weaknesses that occurred in the management of Tabung Haji, following the release of the royal commission of inquiry report.
Its information chief, Aiman Wan Alias, said Tabung Haji, as a trust institution managing the interests of millions of depositors, must have strong governance and remain free from influences that could compromise professional judgment.

Aiman Wan Alias He also called for stricter appointment criteria for Tabung Haji's leadership, saying candidates should have relevant experience in finance, investment or risk management, undergo integrity screening, declare any conflicts of interest and be subject to transparent performance evaluations. - Mkini
