The finance ministry says this follows a joint commitment made on living wages by the six GLICs in May last year.

It said this represented 189,817 out of 206,987 employees, with the amount meeting the benchmark for living wages, according to Bernama.
The ministry said this follows a joint commitment made by the six GLICs in May 2025 to ensure that all permanent employees receive a living wage.
The announcement follows the release of the ministry’s progress report on the Government-Linked Enterprises Activation and Reform Programme (GEAR-uP) today.
The six GLICs under GEAR-uP are EPF, Permodalan Nasional Bhd, Retirement Fund Inc, Khazanah Nasional Bhd, Lembaga Tabung Haji, and the Armed Forces Fund Board.
A living wage is different from a minimum wage. It is the minimum income needed to cover essential expenses such as housing, food, transport, healthcare and other basic needs.
Separately, The Edge also quoted finance minister II Amir Hamzah Azizan as saying that the six GLICs deployed RM20.3 billion in domestic investment in 2025, three times the RM6.6 billion deployed in 2024.
Khazanah Nasional contributed the largest share at RM7.9 billion, followed by EPF with RM5.8 billion, KWAP with RM5.4 billion, and PNB with RM1.3 billion.
Key focus areas included advanced tech and semiconductors (RM3.2 billion), mid-tier scale-ups (RM1.8 billion), Bumiputera enterprise empowerment (RM1.3 billion), venture and startup companies (RM588 million), and energy transition (RM270 million). - FMT
