Former Setiawangsa MP Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad has called for parliamentary allocations to be protected under an Act of Parliament, arguing that they should not be left to the discretion of the prime minister or the Prime Minister’s Office.
Taking to X today, Nik Nazmi said allocations for MPs should be guaranteed through legislation to ensure they are provided to all elected representatives regardless of party.
He added that such a law would also prevent parliamentary allocations from being used as a political tool by those in power.
The Bersama co-leader also pointed to a “strange situation”, where PKR representatives were being denied allocations despite not being removed as party members, while BN members who criticised Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and Pakatan Harapan during state elections continued to receive funds.
Umno supreme council member Razlan Rafii has accused DAP of pushing for local government elections to strengthen its urban support ahead of the next general election, following the party’s losses in several recent state elections including in Negeri Sembilan.
“Pushing for local government elections is an agenda to strengthen support for DAP in urban areas, particularly Kuala Lumpur, ahead of the 16th general election, which I estimate is still about a year away,” the Seputeh Umno division chief said today.
Umno supreme council member Razlan Rafii Razlan also accused DAP of having a “hidden agenda” after its MPs reportedly disputed an academic study on local government elections.
He argued that city administration should be insulated from political influence and BN remained consistent that the mayor’s authority should be separated from political power.

Failure to protect whistleblowers could create a climate of fear among honest officers, discouraging them from speaking out against abuses of power, said former High Court judge Syed Ahmad Idid Syed Abdullah.
Speaking at the 2nd Wisdom Malaysia Conference 2026 in Kuala Lumpur, he said suppressing and intimidating whistleblowers, rather than investigating corruption allegations, merely exposes a nation to the risk of even larger future financial scandals and crimes.
“When you discourage whistleblowing, you are actually making sure that there will be nobody honest in the organisation, when crimes are being committed, who will dare to speak up?
“Whistleblowing is not slander. It is an act of justice aimed at stopping corruption and fixing dangerous workplace problems,” Bernama reported him as saying during a dialogue session titled “The Life, Conscience and Costs of the Principled”.
Regarding the financial impact of eradicating graft, he said if all illicit proceeds from corruption and leakages were successfully recovered, those funds could finance basic infrastructure developments for the public. - Mkini
