PETALING JAYA:
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has detained a former CEO and an ex-chief financial officer of a company linked to a statutory body as part of its probe into the findings of the royal commission of inquiry (RCI) on Tabung Haji (TH).

According to Berita Harian, the two men, aged 68 and 60, were arrested on suspicion of abusing their positions in the RM370 million purchase of shares in two plantation companies.

They were nabbed after providing their statements at MACC’s headquarters in Putrajaya at about 6.30pm yesterday.

However, they were released later that night due to health reasons and are scheduled to return to the MACC headquarters at 10am today to continue giving their statements.

MACC chief commissioner Abd Halim Aman confirmed the arrests and said the case is being investigated under Section 23 of the MACC Act.

Yesterday, MACC was reported to have arrested the director of a design firm for allegedly giving free renovations worth RM300,000 for houses belonging to a statutory body’s former chief operating officer as a kickback to secure projects from the organisation.

The suspect is believed to have given bribes in the form of renovations worth about RM300,000 for four homes belonging to the former COO between 2014 and 2018.

The anti-graft agency also arrested the former plantation manager of a rubber seedling supplier in the Klang Valley for alleged misappropriation involving RM8 million in contracts awarded by a statutory body involved in the plantation sector.

A source said the suspect’s arrest was also linked to the TH RCI report. - FMT
