COMMUNICATIONS Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil has clarified that Nurul Izzah Anwar’s departure from her PKR leadership post to focus on her PhD studies and community work will not diminish her commitment to the party.
PKR granted her temporary leave, with Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail assuming her duties. Fahmi reassured that her move does not signal a loss of government support, emphasising that MPs remain committed to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
“We are not like the other parties that have said that the parties have automatically left the government. That is not the case. We are not like that.
“In a democracy, we sit down; we discuss. The higher objective is to solve the problems of the people and the economy and make sure the economy of the people becomes the focus.”
He highlighted ongoing government reforms, including implementing 75% of Tabung Haji Royal Commission of Inquiry recommendations, and suggested the next general election could occur late next year.
Nurul Izzah announced that she was relinquishing her role as PKR deputy president to focus on further studies and community work outside politics.
But the PKR Central Leadership Council granted her temporary leave starting after the upcoming National Congress, with Saifuddin stepping in to handle her duties.
“Nur Izzah remains as a member of the party and will continue to support the party in the struggle. The focus of Parliament and the commitment of the MPs in Parliament is that they will continue to support Anwar until the end,” Fahmi said.
He believes the next general elections will be held sometime towards the end of next year. — Focus Malaysia
