PETALING JAYA:
Wanita DAP has urged the government to disclose the official minutes of the pardons board meeting yesterday at which the decision to give Najib Razak a conditional pardon was made.

The women’s wing leader, Teo Nie Ching, said the public deserved complete clarity on the “considerations and processes” that led to the decision.

Teo made the call in a statement after the DAP central executive committee meeting at which secretary-general Loke Siew Fook said he would tender his resignation as transport minister in response to the conditional pardon.

Loke’s decision was not made lightly, Teo said. “His courage and wisdom in making a bold decision at this critical moment speak volumes about his leadership and also reflect DAP’s long-standing principle (on the issue),” she said.

Earlier today, Loke said he would be the only DAP leader to tender his resignation over Najib’s conditional pardon, citing the need to ensure political stability.

Najib, 73, has been allowed to serve the remainder of a six-year jail sentence at his home, provided he pays his RM50 million fine in his SRC International case.

The Prime Minister’s Department said the conditional pardon was granted by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Ibrahim, following the meeting of the Federal Territories Pardons Board. - FMT
