Earlier today, Najib's special officer Ahmad Lutfi Azhar was seen arriving at his Langgak Duta residence, hours after he was granted a conditional pardon allowing him to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest.
He was seen entering the compound in a black Proton sport utility vehicle (SUV) at about 4.35pm.
His arrival marked one of the first movements observed at the residence, where more than 50 local and international media personnel, as well as supporters, have been stationed since earlier today following the announcement of the conditional pardon.
Lutfi has remained tight-lipped on developments hours after the former prime minister was granted a conditional pardon allowing him to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest.
He emerged from Najib's residence in Jalan Langgak Duta to distribute water to more than 50 media personnel who had been waiting for hours for any sign of Najib or his wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor.
Asked how the family was doing and whether they would be coming to the house, Lutfi said he could not comment.
Asked whether the media should continue waiting outside the house, Lutfi said it was up to them.
Police patrols were seen periodically making their rounds in the area.
Earlier today, the Federal Territories Pardons Board announced that Najib, 73, had been granted a conditional pardon allowing him to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest until Aug 23, 2028, subject to the payment of a RM50 million fine.
The decision was made at the 64th meeting of the Pardons Board for the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur, Labuan and Putrajaya at Istana Negara today.
The Legal Affairs Division of the Prime Minister's Department said His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, had consented to the conditional pardon.
Najib must comply with all conditions imposed under the pardon, failing which it will be revoked and he will be required to immediately serve the remainder of his sentence in prison.
Najib has been serving his sentence at Kajang Prison since Aug 23, 2022, after the Federal Court upheld his conviction and sentence in the SRC International case.
He was convicted of seven charges involving abuse of power, criminal breach of trust and money laundering involving RM42 million belonging to SRC International.
Najib was originally sentenced to 12 years' jail and fined RM210 million.
In 2024, the Pardons Board reduced his jail term to six years and his fine to RM50 million, setting his release date at Aug 23, 2028. - NST
