Cops seize 191kg of drugs worth RM17.2mil in Sarawak raids

 Sarawak police chief Zainal Abdullah says the drugs could have been distributed to about 484,850 people, highlighting a serious drug trafficking threat in the state.

PETALING JAYA:
Police seized 191kg of drugs worth RM17.2 million in two separate raids in Kuching and Limbang over the past week.

Sarawak police chief Zainal Abdullah said the seizures involved various types of drugs, including MDMA powder and liquid, ketamine, Erimin 5 and methamphetamine. The raids also led to the arrest of two men aged 39 and 23.

Zainal said the seized drugs could have been distributed to about 484,850 people, highlighting the scale of the drug trafficking threat in Sarawak, reported Berita Harian.

In the first case in Kuching on Sept 11, police seized 107.518kg of drugs, comprising 50.1kg of MDMA powder, 32.3kg of ketamine, 25kg of liquid MDMA and 0.118kg of Erimin 5 pills.

“The total value of the seizure was estimated at RM12.89 million, with the drugs believed to have been intended for distribution in Kuching,” he said at a press conference in Kuching.

Following that, police raided a house at Jalan Mendamit in Limbang on Sept 14, where they seized 84.07kg of drugs comprising 81.21kg of methamphetamine, 2.06kg of ketamine and 0.80kg of MDMA powder.

The total value of the drugs seized was estimated at RM4.3 million. A four-wheel-drive vehicle worth RM35,000 was also seized.

Zainal said both cases were being investigated for drug trafficking under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. - FMT
