Woman drowns after rafting boat overturns in Kuala Kubu Bharu

HULU SELANGOR: A 34-year-old woman drowned after the rafting boat she was travelling in with five others overturned at Sungai Pertak, Kuala Kubu Bharu, here today.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations Ashrul Riezal Asbar said the department received an emergency call at 3.52pm.

He said a team of six firefighters and a fire engine from the Kuala Kubu Bharu Fire and Rescue Station were dispatched to the scene.

"Based on information from the victim's friends, the rafting boat carrying the woman and five others overturned at the first rapid, causing all of them to fall into the water.

"All six were thrown from the boat around noon. The victim was found trapped underwater, and her friends tried to free her from the obstruction," he said.

Ashrul Riezal said firefighters subsequently brought the victim to a safe location before handing her over to police for further action.

He said the victim's body was taken to the Forensic Unit of Kuala Kubu Bharu Hospital.
