DPM: Najib to reveal ‘good news’

Although his lips were sealed about the details, Muhyiddin Yassin says the announcement will lessen the burden of the people.
PETALING JAYA: Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak will announce a “good news” for the people, including for some 40,000 taxi drivers, said his deputy Muhyiddin Yassin.
Speaking at a function in Sungai Petani this morning, Muhyiddin however refused to divulge more details but promised that it would be a move to lessen the burden of the people.
“I would love to share this good news right now. I guess it is best for us to wait for the prime minister to make the announcement,” he was quoted as saying by news reports.
Muhyiddin said the announcement was something that had been planned by Najib and himself for the government to help the people.
The deputy prime minister also said that Barisan Nasional was committed to turning Malaysia into a high-income nation in 2020, with the income level expected to double to almost RM60,000 a year.
To achieve this, Muhyiddin said, the government would not impose additional burdens on the people.
“The government always thinks of ways to help the people. Even the Budget 2012 tabled by the prime minister focused on the interests of the people. In eight years time, the income target must double,” he added.
Muhyiddin said the government cannot overlook any of the sectors which contributed to the progess of the nation and much more needed to be done to turn Malaysia into a developed country.
He said billions of ringgit had been disbursed as flexible loans to the people and numerous programmes were being crafted to help the people become entrepreneurs.
“The Bantuan Rakyat 1Malaysia (BR1M) aid alone cost RM1.9 billion and this benefitted four million households. Pray that the prime minister announces more such aid,” he said.
The deputy prime minister said the policies of BN would be more effective if the people backed the coalition in the next general election.
