‘Ipoh Barat, you’re a pondan’

Kinabatangan MP Bung Mokhtar Radin lashes out at the DAP MP while debating an amendment to the Evidence Act.
UPDATED
KUALA LUMPUR:  Umno MP Bung Mokhtar Radin, known for his caustic remarks, had DAP M Kulasegaran in his crosshairs this morning, calling the latter a “pondan” (transsexual).
The Kinabatangan representative lashed out at the Ipoh Barat MP when debating an amendment to the Evidence Act in the Dewan Rakyat.
Earlier, Bung Mokhtar labelled those who used pseudonyms to blog and post comments on the Internet as cowards.
“Look at our prime minister’s (Najib Tun Razak) tweets. There are some irresponsible people who use pseudonyms to attack him with slanders and weak arguments. They are cowards,” he said.
At this juncture, Kulasegaran stood up and asked Bung Mokhtar if he was referring to former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad as well since the latter used a pseudonym for his blog.
However, Bung Mokhtar replied that “Che Det” was Mahathir’s pen name and not a pseudonym. “All those using various pseudonyms are ‘pondan’. Ipoh Barat is a ‘pondan’ too,” he said.
The BN MP urged the government to consider enacting a law that would compel bloggers to register their pseudonyms to allow a better monitoring mechanism.
“The government must have laws to identify them,” he said, adding that action must be taken against irresponsible bloggers and commentators.
This prompted Tian Chua (PKR-Batu) to ask if the government should also probe unverified allegations by a certain blogger who accused the former of slandering the King.
Last week, Malay daily Utusan Malaysia carried a post by a blogger who claimed that Tian Chua, PKR deputy president Azmin Ali and PAS central working committee member Khalid Samad had insulted the monarchs during the installation ceremony of Sultan Abdul Halim Mu’adzzam Shah.
Bung Mokhtar agreed that the blogger’s accusation must be probed and warned the government not to allow the cyber world to destroy the country.
“The cyber world is becoming a formidable enemy. You don’t need torpedoes or atomic bombs to destroy nations like what happened in Korea and Iraq. The cyber world is sufficient,” he said.
