Prime Minister Najib Razak’s refusal to set up a tribunal to deal with allegations against attorney-general Abdul Gani Patail and former Inspector General of Police Musa Hassan does not clear the latter two of their alleged criminal offences.
Former Kuala Lumpur CID chief Mat Zain Ibrahim in an open letter to IGP Ismail Omar today said Najib should realise that only tribunal by a panel appointed by the Yang di Pertuan Agong can do so.
"Any other form of independent panel formed with other names would be worthless. Such action can be deemed as deragatory to the agong," he said.
"I repeat that the only way to clear Abdul Gani (right) and Musa is only through a tribunal formed according to the constitution.
“Any other methods could be seen as a violation to the constitution and would be seen as a whitewash exercise directed to blind the public," he said.

Over the past few weeks Malaysiakini has highlighted the plight of former Commercial Crime Investigation Department chief Ramli Yusuff and six of his men, who had allegedly been fixed by Abdul Gani, Musa and the Anti Corruption Agency (ACA), MACC’s predecessor.
On Sunday it was reported that Musa had allegedly consulted a dubious character BK Tan over the promotion and transfers of police officers.
Mat Zain added that Musa, Abdul Gani and Kuala Lumpur Hospital's Dr Abdul Rahman Yusof had yet to be fully absolved over fabricating evidence in PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim’s ‘black eye’ incident.
He reiterated that the ACA was wrong in classifying the case as abuse of power and not fabrication of evidence.
