NGO: BN flag blitz at KTM stations 'childish, laughable'

An NGO has blasted the BN for its “childish” act of "defacing" public spaces such as KTM commuter stations with its party flags.

“The rakyat surely find it unacceptable the excessive behaviour of political parties that fill up public spaces with their flags for campaigning, because this is childish behaviour.

NONE“After 12 rounds of general elections, what is the rationale for such a campaign (tactic)?

“Such behaviour only shows the low mentality of the political parties in insulting the rakyat’s intelligence,” said Teras president Mohd Azmi Abdul Hamid.

The NGO chief, in a statement today, warned that it is a matter of time before the people get “sick and fed up” of the BN’s antics.

He was responding to the exercise by BN machinery to put up its flags in 28 commuter stations in Selangor, with the blessings of KTM’s chief and Selangor BN coordinator Mohd  Zin Mohamed.

According to a source, Mohd  Zin had issued a circular directing KTM staff to oversee the exercise and ensure the flags are not “sabotaged or defaced”.
Mohd Azmi said, "Not only is (the flag blitz) not proper, it will also be the laughingstock of political observers from abroad.”
He added that campaign tactics such as hanging flags in public places should have its limits.
'BN doesn’t own KTM stations'
Meanwhile PAS Youth said Umno-BN leaders needed to remember that public services like the commuter trains were meant for the general public of various political leanings.

riduan mohd nor“Putting up just BN flags makes it seem as if the commuter stations belong to BN only,” said Youth information chief Riduan Mohd Nor (right) in a Harakahdailyreport.
He said such actions would surely cause discontent amongst commuters who are Pakatan Rakyat supporters, adding if KTMB would also allow Pakatan Rakyat to put up its flags in the stations across Selangor.

Riduan recommended the order allowing BN machinery to put up its flags at the KTM stations be cancelled to “free public services from the clutches of partisan politics”.

He added that it was the “right” of people of all political beliefs to enjoy public services, which are not exclusively for supporters of BN.

“The (public services) were also not built using BN funds, but from revenue given by the rakyat to the government,” Riduan said.
