A road leading to the popular site has been sealed off.
FMT ALERT
KUALA LUMPUR: The police have moved into Dataran Merdeka as the countdown to the Bersih 3.0 sit-in rally starts.
The historical site is the venue for the rally for free and fair election.
About 60 to 80 policemen can be seen walking around Dataran Merdeka. The road leading to the site – Jalan Raja – has been cordoned off.
The place is locked down on the instruction of Kuala Lumpur Mayor Ahmad Fuad Ismail. Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) invoked the Local Government By-laws (Dataran Merdeka) 1992 and the Local Government Act 1976 to shut down the iconic site.
DBKL officers are also moving about in the vicinity.
