DAP expresses deep disappointment that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has adopted Perkasa’s extremist approach by declaring to Pekan UMNO members that the 13th general election is not an ordinary election but one that will determine the survival of the Malays.
Najib has rejected the politics of moderation and inclusion as well as abandoned his own 1Malaysia philosophy in preference for an exlusive and racial approach.
The 13th general elections should be a contest of ideas and policies that benefits the successful transition into a high-income economy and ensure the survival of all Malaysians to compete globally.
It is not about the survival of the Malays nor about the survival of the non-Malays exclusively but the survival of all Malaysians.
Telling the same lies as Perkasa
Najib is also perpetuating Perkasa’s lies that DAP is anti-Malay by dishonestly saying that DAP has never been happy with the position of the Malays and Muslims. Playing up sentiments that DAP is anti-Malay is a dangerous game as by centering the election campaign on race and religion, Malaysians miss the opportunity for a real debate on policies and ideas that can move Malaysia forward.
DAP wishes to remind Dato Seri Najib that he is the Prime Minister of all Malaysians and not just one community. If UMNO succeeds in its racial and extremist politics of pitting Malays against non-Malays, Muslims against non-Muslims, then the country will come out more fractured and divided after the general elections.
DAP regrets the racial labelling or profiling by UMNO Najib should retract such inflammatory remarks to prove that 1Malaysia is not dead.
