NS police deny any cover-up in shooting

Negri Sembilan police have denied any cover-up in a shooting said to involve a state executive council member.

"Cover up? That is just an allegation," Negri Sembilan police chief Osman Salleh said when contacted about the attack last night.

However, Osman declined to give any detail, other than to say that an investigation was going on.

Earlier, Rasah MP Anthony Loke (left) told Malaysiakini that a "reliable source" had informed him of the shooting at the exco member's house and that there were attempts to hide it from public knowledge.

"A shot was fired by the first-term exco member (name withheld). Apparently there was a police report lodged, but it has been withdrawn," Loke said.

However, he declined to elaborate on the cover-up attempts or name the party responsible.

Loke, who is also the DAP Youth chief, urged the police to confirm whether the incident had occurred and conduct a thorough investigation.

"Because, in the case of Anwar's bodyguard, he just showed his gun, but the police were quick to investigate.

"I hope the police will not show double-standards, even though this case involves a member of the administration... what led this exco member to fire a shot and was the action justified?" Loke asked.
