BN government always pro-business, says Muhyiddin

KOTA SENTOSA (Sarawak), Jan 29 — Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin today said the Barisan Nasional (BN) government has always been pro-business as part of its policies to ensure political stability and conducive environment for the local business community.

Muhyiddin (picture)said the opposition’s aspiration to come to Sarawak and change the government would bring problems to the people, whereas the BN, which has the experience to govern the country, has proven that its consistent policies helped to facilitate business ventures through various incentives.

“When people said lets change the government, the people, especially businessmen, must think carefully because it will not be good for the economy,” he said during his walkabout to the Kota Sentosa market on the outskirts of Kuching.

During his visit to the market, he met traders and hawkers and was treated to a hearty breakfast, including Sarawak laksa as well as local delicacies, including “kuih bungkol” and “cerolot,” a type of steamed cake made from rice floor, palm sugar, coconut milk and wrapped in palm leaves.

Accompanying him were Green Technology, Energy and Water Minister Datuk Seri Peter Chin, state Tourism Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Openg, state Community Services Assistant Minister Datuk Peter Nansian, state Public Health Assistant Minister Dr Jerip Susil, Sarawak Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry president Datuk Wee Kok Tiong and Padawan Municipal Council chairman Lo Kher Chiang.

Also present was Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Youth secretary-general Wilfred Yap, the party’s nominated candidate for the Stampin parliamentary seat in the coming general election.

Muhyiddin was also happy to note that the current government had provided a conducive environment in Sarawak for businessmen to conduct their businesses as well as attract more investors to the state.

During the visit, he announced a federal allocation of RM500,000 to upgrade facilities at the Kota Sentosa mini town square, including outdoor shelter and lighting.

In thanking the deputy prime minister for the grant, Lo said the 3,000sq metre project under the jurisdiction of the municipal council was expected to be ready by year’s end to provide better facilities for communal and cultural activities for the people of Kota Sentosa and its vicinity.

The mini town square is also the venue for the Ramadan bazaar, mini concerts, cultural dances and traditional exercise activities like tai chi, he said. — Bernama
