Dolomite: We were not given chance to have our say

Dolomite Corporation Bhd was reportedly not consulted in the decision-making process that led to the cancellation of its condominium project in Batu Caves.

English language daily The Sun quoted its managing director Lew Choong Keong in expressing his shock and dismay over the cancellation yesterday.

"The decision, made solely on the recommendation of the State Town Planning Department, was uncalled for.

"After two attempts to meet with the menteri besar and the relevant authorities, we were not given the opportunity to present our case or findings to them, nor have we been able to review the research presented by the town planning department for accuracy and further discussion," he was quoted as saying.

He added that Dolomite was willing to provide evidence from industry experts that the project met the safety and environmental standards.

Lew also reportedly complained that the state government’s seven-paragraph statement announcing the cancellation was vague on how the project might endanger residents and the surrounding area.

The controversy on the condominium project, which is near the iconic Batu Caves temples, first erupted when MIC and the temple committee held a protest against it last year.

The state government has since established a committee to oversee all development in the area, while Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak had pledged to cancel the project if BN takes over Selangor.
