Jalan Robson: DBKL promises action

DBKL official Amran Abdullah says that efforts to secure the slopes at Jalan Robson will begin before the month ends.
PETALING JAYA:  Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) will start remedial works to secure the slopes at Jalan Robson this month.
DBKL’s director of civil engineering and drainage department Amran Abdullah said this in response to a letter published in FMT today, where the writer complained that nothing had been done since March 9 last year after DBKL officials were on high alert at Jalan Robson.
The road was reopened yesterday following closure after mudslides on Wednesday night. A DBKL official said if heavy rains were to occur again, they would have to close the road as the earth was still soft.
The letter writer’s grouse was that after nine months since the place was on high alert, nothing had been done by DBKL to secure the slopes with the exception of using tarpaulins to cover up the affected slopes at Persiaran Endah and Jalan Syed Putra.
He was further disappointed with the situation as the prime minister had been repeating his promise of “People First, Performance Now” but no concern had been given to those affected which further undermined the people’s confidence in the current government.
Amran said that DBKL had come out with a tender for works to secure the slopes at Jalan Robson to commence.
“Since the tender has not been awarded to anyone yet, it will be presented to the board panel next week.
“After a decision is reached, the chosen contractor will take a week before starting remedial work on the slopes,” he added.
Amran further assured that corrective work on Jalan Robson would begin before January ends.
Mentioning the recent landslide at Puncak Setiawangsa, the complainant hoped for “a basic right to live in a neighbourhood that is safe for habitation.”
