SEREMBAN: The Negri Sembilan state government under the leadership of Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan has less than a month to serve the people as the state legislative assembly will automatically dissolve itself on March 26.
State legislative assembly speaker Datuk Razak Mansor said the mandate given by the people at the last general election to Barisan Nasional to rule the state for a five-year term would also end on the said date.
"If no announcement about the dissolution of the state legislative assembly is made in the very near future, then, according to the state constitution, the state legislative assembly will automatically dissolve itself on March 26.
"After the date, a temporary government will be set up and led by the Mentri Besar, and that the state election must be held within the next 60 days," he said, here, Friday.
Razak, who is also Pertang assemblyman, said if no election was held within that 60-day period, Yang Dipertuan Besar Tuanku Muhriz Ibni Almarhum Tuanku Munawir would take over the administration and form the new state government.
"This ruling is stated under the state constitution, but we hardly ever come to a point where the Yang Dipertuan Besar has to take over," he said.
Negri Sembilan is among the states where the state legislative assembly will dissolve itself earlier than the automatic dissolution of Parliament, which is on April 28. Barisan controls the Negri Sembilan legislative assembly after winning 21 out of 36 state seats in the 2008 general election.
