Photo of dead intruders: Where are the rest?

YOURSAY ‘Earlier reports said they were hundreds of them. You are only confirming 13 dead bodies. So where are the rest?'

Photo released of 13 dead intruders

your sayEe Beng Guan: I am confused. On Tuesday at 7am, wehit them with all our might... bombs air strikes and all. The inspector-general of police (IGP) declared the operation a success as its 'objectives' were achieved.

What I want to know is what these objectives were. If you assault the enemy with air strikes etc, I assume the objectives must include killing them and if so, the success of the operation can only be measured by how of them were killed.

Yet one day later, there was no news of how many enemies were killed in the air strike. So how can it be a success? Surely the objective was not to frightened them, meaning to say we deliberately bombed the surrounding areas? That would be a strange thing to do.

I think whichever way you look at it, it was sheer incompetence in the execution of the operation. Either we can't hit our targets or our intelligence is so screwed up that we did not know they had left the target area. So which is which?

Mushiro: These 12 dead, plus one more killed yesterday morning, brings the total dead toll so far at 13. This means the air bombing on Tuesday did not kill any of the Sulu intruders.

Either our ministers are dumb in communicating this or there is something they are hiding.

Cannon: After the dust has cleared and our dead buried, these two ministers show up at a press conference. They told Malaysians that things are under control.

Meanwhile, villagers in kampungs in the vicinity of Lahat Datu are all fleeing for their lives. A forensic team sent into an area purportedly secured, walked right into enemy fire.

Even former army chief Gen (Rtd) Md Hashim Hussein is of the viewthat coordination, command and control are lacking because there is no clear chain of command.

The political leadership should bear the responsibility for this humiliating fiasco. It's due to the failure of Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein and Defence Minister Zahid Hamidi to recognise the gravity of the situation that got eight of our men killed - with one reportedly beheaded and others mutilated.
These imbeciles could not be more wrong in their assessment of the intruders' intention. Instead of addressing the nation on Tuesday, PM Najib Razak met and briefed the ulamas.

Malaysians should demand they all step down.

Cantabrigian: Sorry to burst your bubble, but the earlier reports said they were hundreds of them. The defence and home ministers are only confirming 13 dead bodies. So where are the rest? Hiding underground or on top of some pokok kelapa (coconut tree)?

Anonymous_3f6d: What is the purpose in releasing these photos? We want to know that this incident is resolved, and what went wrong over the past few weeks that resulted in the deaths of our personnel.

Jk7462000: Malaysians want a full account on how many invaders were killed and how many are still at large.

Whitehead: Welcome back, Zahid. Did you just wake up from slumber?

Where have you been the past three weeks when your presence was critically required to protect Lahad Datu from terrorists. God help us, now that you are back, I wonder if it will make any difference or worsen the situation.

YoungBlood: Hey minister, just let the big boys do the updates please. Enough of your politician talk.

If he disclosed the real figure, Sulu princess Jacel Kiram could always counter our numbers by saying more are "alive and kicking". The enemies are watching us closely.

Angel: Resign Zahid, you are responsible for making our border porous.

Anak Kedah: Zahid, show us how many Sulu terrorists have been killed by our army. At the very least, it would give comfort to the Sabahans that the area is safe again.

Good Men: Anyone else think that an Apache helicopter might have done a better job. And our boys have to keep pounding at the intruders night and day, don't give the chance to eat or sleep.

Our lads are on a steep learning curve. But I am sure they will learn fast as long as there is no political interference, which is demoralising.

They need to know the country is 100 percent behind them. Who wants to die for their country if they don't feel their country is fully behind them?

Abdullah A: The operation is not over. Hold all your comments. This is not the time to be critical on our security forces who are risking their lives to "sweep" the area.

Kunta-kinte: I'd suggest all local journalists to abandon (boycott) them and go back to your offices. Just get online news from the many Philippines news portals.

Sorry to see the journalists begging for information to disseminate to concerned Malaysians. Let them have TV3, RTM,Utusan Malaysia, The Star and the likes.

Hjsingh: This whole thing is:

1. Political/diplomatic failure by not averting this invasion by Sulu intruders who were unhappy with the Malaysian-sponsored peace deal between the Philippines and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF).

2. Intelligence failure in which the Malaysian government was not alerted.

3. Gross failure by Malaysian government in treating these murderous Sulu as some long lost relatives and giving them time to consolidate on Sabah soil.

4. Gross failure in informing the press and international media of Malaysia's stance.

5. Gross failure in articulating from the very beginning that armed action by any party, regardless of religion, will not be tolerated.

6. Gross failure and non-cohesive line of command with specific orders to the police and army as to the end result desired.

7. Confusion when shooting started after the deadline.

8. Failure to have sufficient forces to handle the invasion even after three weeks.

9. Failure by the political leadership to take charge and take the nation into their confidence.

10. Loss of credibility through inaccurate statements, allowing the Sulu sultan to appear more credible.

Geronimo: Actually, there was no need for all the killings despite the fact that this was a military invasion.

Umno should have done what they have been doing for the past 30 years - walk up to them and offer them blue ICs (identity cards) plus citizenship and tell them to take an oath of allegiance to Umno that they will vote for them in the coming GE, and voila, problem solved.

Umno would have got an extra 200-300 votes. If more of them were to come, the better.

The only difference is that those who got their citizenship previously did not demand, but this group is doing so, and Umno hates people who demand. - Malaysiakini
